Health Calculators
Pace Calculator
Pace is the time it takes to cover one unit of distance: pace = time ÷ distance. Leave the field you want solved for blank and enter the other two. If you fill all three, the calculator tells you when they disagree instead of silently picking a pair.
Calculator
Formula
Pace = time ÷ distance. Time = pace × distance. Distance = time ÷ pace. One mile is exactly 1.609344 kilometers, and a pace per mile becomes a pace per kilometer by dividing by 1.609344.
About This Calculator
What It Does
This calculator relates pace, time and distance so that any two of the three give the third. Enter a distance and the time it took and it returns your pace; enter a pace and a distance and it returns the finish time; enter a pace and a time and it returns how far you went. The pace is stated in minutes and seconds per kilometre or per mile, whichever unit you choose, and the equivalent in the other unit is shown beside it.
Worked Example
Suppose you ran 10 km in 50:00. Your pace is 50:00 ÷ 10 = 5:00 per kilometre. In miles the same run is 10 ÷ 1.609344 = 6.21 mi, and the same pace is 5:00 × 1.609344 = 8:02 per mile — the same speed read in the other unit. Turn the question around: hold a 5:00 per kilometre pace and ask for the time of a half marathon (21.0975 km). The time is 5:00 × 21.0975 = 1:45:29. Ask for the distance instead — a 25:00 run at 5:00 per kilometre — and you covered 25:00 ÷ 5:00 = 5.00 km.
Real-World Usage
Use it to plan a training run at a target pace, to check what pace a race time implies, to work out how far a run at a set pace will take you, or to convert a pace between minutes per kilometre and minutes per mile for a treadmill or a race abroad.
Local Context
The arithmetic is the same everywhere: pace is time divided by distance, and the only choice is the unit. Miles are the everyday distance in the United States and the United Kingdom, kilometres in most other places, and running events are usually measured in kilometres even where road distances are posted in miles. This calculator uses the unit you select and the exact conversion 1 mi = 1.609344 km; it does not model terrain, elevation or stops, so it reports an average pace over the distance, not a split-by-split one.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate my pace?
Divide your total time by the distance. Running 10 km in 50 minutes gives a pace of 50 ÷ 10 = 5 minutes per kilometre, written 5:00. Running 6.2 miles in 50 minutes gives 50 ÷ 6.2 = 8.06 minutes per mile, about 8:04.
What is a good pace?
There is no single answer: pace depends on the distance, the runner and the day. A comfortable training pace is usually slower than a race pace over the same distance, and a 5 km pace is faster than a marathon pace. The useful figure is your own repeatable pace over the distance you are training for.
How do I convert pace from minutes per kilometre to minutes per mile?
Multiply the pace in minutes per kilometre by 1.609344, because one mile is 1.609344 kilometres. A 5:00 per kilometre pace is 5 × 1.609344 = 8.05 minutes per mile, or about 8:03. Going the other way, divide minutes per mile by 1.609344.
Why does the calculator refuse three values at once?
Pace, time and distance are linked by one equation, so any two decide the third. If all three are given and they do not satisfy pace = time ÷ distance, they are inconsistent — usually a mistyped time or a distance from another run. Clearing the field you want solved for keeps the other two and gives the answer.
