Time & Date Calculators

Age Calculator

Age is the time between two dates, counted in completed years, months and days rather than rounded: leap years and the different lengths of months are what make the day count exact. Enter a birth date and, if you want, the date to measure at; the result also gives the days to the next birthday.

Calculator

How It Works

The calculator counts the exact time between your birth date and today, accounting for leap years and varying month lengths to give precise years, months, and days.

About This Calculator

What It Does

Calculate your exact age in years, months, and days from your birth date. Also shows how many total days you've been alive and how many days until your next birthday.

Worked Example

Born on January 1, 1990: the calculator subtracts your birth date from today to show years, months, days, total days lived, and countdown to your next birthday.

Real-World Usage

Use for personal curiosity, filling out age requirements on forms, calculating retirement eligibility, or determining legal age thresholds for licenses, voting, or age-restricted activities.

Local Context

Age is calculated the same way everywhere — from birth date to current date. Some cultures count age differently (Korean age system starts at 1 and adds a year on New Year's Day), but this calculator uses the internationally standard birth-to-today method.

Other Age-Counting Systems

Most of the world counts age from birth: you are 0 on the day you are born and add a year on each birthday. East Asian tradition counts differently. In the Korean system everyone is 1 at birth and gains a year on 1 January rather than on their birthday, so the count can sit one or two years above the international one; South Korea stopped using it for official documents in June 2023, though it survives in everyday speech. Traditional Chinese age works the same way and increases at the lunar new year. This calculator reports the international age, which is the number most countries, forms and legal thresholds use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this calculator account for leap years?

Yes. The calculator precisely accounts for leap years, giving you an accurate age regardless of whether you were born in a leap year or have lived through several.

How is age calculated in different cultures?

In most Western countries, age is counted from birth (your age increments on your birthday). In South Korea, a person is considered 1 year old at birth, and everyone ages one year on New Year's Day.

Can I calculate the age of someone who has passed away?

Yes. You can calculate the age someone would have been at any given date between their birth and today.
