Time & Date Calculators
Time Duration Calculator
Enter start and end times to see the exact elapsed duration in hours and minutes. If the interval crosses midnight, the end is treated as the following day. Times use 24-hour HH:MM format, with no rounding. Use this tool for one interval; it does not handle breaks, payroll, taxes, overtime rules, time zones or daylight-saving changes.
Calculator
Formula used
Elapsed minutes = (end minute − start minute + 1,440) modulo 1,440. Hours are whole groups of 60 minutes; the remainder is minutes.
About This Calculator
What It Does
This calculator finds the elapsed duration between two clock times entered to the nearest minute. It reports whole hours and the remaining minutes, as well as total minutes.
Worked Example
For a shift from 09:00 to 17:00, elapsed time is 8 hours and 0 minutes (480 minutes). For 22:30 to 06:15, the end is on the following day and the elapsed duration is 7 hours 45 minutes. Equal times represent zero elapsed time.
Real-World Usage
Use it to check a single work interval, event, trip or study session. For a timecard with several intervals, calculate each separately and add the minutes; this page does not store entries.
Local Context
The input is local clock time in 24-hour HH:MM format. Duration is elapsed wall-clock time within a 24-hour cycle; daylight-saving changes and time zones are not modelled. An earlier end means the following day. Minutes are exact and no rounding is applied. This is not a payroll or tax calculation.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is an overnight shift handled?
If the end time is earlier than the start time, the calculator treats it as the next day.
Does this calculate paid hours?
No. It reports elapsed clock time only and does not subtract breaks or apply payroll, overtime or tax rules.
What happens when both times are equal?
The elapsed duration is zero minutes. A start time that matches the end time is read as the same instant, so nothing is added to the interval.
